It's still compatible with standard residential equipment as long as you replace it on schedule. MERV 13 — Right for Specific Households, Not All Systems

If someone in your home has asthma, COPD, or severe allergies — or if wildfire smoke events are a recurring concern — MERV 13 delivers meaningfully better protection. The important caveat: not every residential air handler can handle the airflow restriction of a MERV 13. How Often to Change Filters in the Desert — Real Cadence, Not the Box
